The first One Ocean Summit organized by One Ocean Foundation.

On 21 September, at Palazzo Mezzanotte, headquarters of the Italian Stock Exchange, the first One Ocean Summit was organized by One Ocean Foundation, held under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, an event dedicated to present the projects and activities carried out by the Foundation for the protection of the oceans.

On this occasion, One Ocean Foundation brought together its network of partners, companies, academics, and institutions, to present its commitment to a sustainable transition of the economy, to create a debate and to promote awareness on the importance of these issues.

The event, supported by Borsa Italiana, was marked by a series of authoritative and passionate interventions, involving speakers from the world of science, business, sport and institutions.

After a brief welcome from the Vice President of One Ocean Foundation Riccardo Bonadeo and the President of the Italian Stock Exchange Andrea Sironi, the Secretary General Jan Pachner and the Operations Manager Giulio Magni intervened to present the results obtained in the first three years of life of the Foundation. To name just a few numbers: over 146 activities carried out since 2018 and more than 13 thousand young people involved in the various awareness projects.

On stage were also Mauro Pelaschier and Max Sirena, both One Ocean Foundation ambassadors and professional sailors who have written and will write the past and future of the history of Italian sailing, testifying to how sailing and sport in general are a significant channel of awareness and education for future generations.

On a scientific level, contributions were given by Catherine Warner, Director of the CMRE-Nato center in La Spezia, and by the oceanographer Sandro Carniel, first researcher of the CNR and member of the scientific committee and of the foundation, who underlined the importance of the ocean for the life of the planet also underlining how the climate crisis is causing a degradation of the marine ecosystem at a global scale.

The One Ocean Summit 2021 culminated with the presentation of the result of a multi-year research on the Blue Economy, the Ocean Disclosure Initiative, a project developed in collaboration with SDA Bocconi, McKinsey and Company and CSIC. This innovative tool, presented by the President of the Scientific Committee Stefano Pogutz, intends to be a support to companies and investors to measure and report the impact of business on the marine ecosystem.

The event terminated with greetings from the Vice President Riccardo Bonadeo who thanked those present and the partners who, with their contribution, make possible the realization of the foundation’s projects.
