Porto Cervo, May 23th 2019: 24 teams, representing 16 countries, took part in the only one Italian semifinal leg of the One Ocean Sailing Champions League, an international sailing event entirely dedicated to sustainability, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with the support of the Main Partner Audi.
Among the teams present in Porto Cervo, also the holder of the Title 2018, the Circolo Vela Bari, led by Simone Ferrarese.
During the days of the regatta, the participants were informed by some representatives of One Ocean Foundation about the urgent problem of the pollution of the sea and they were involved in how we can actually intervene supporting the ocean. The Presidents of the Clubs have been invited to subscribe to the principles of the Charta Smeralda, and Riccardo Bonadeo, Commodore of YCCS and Vice President of the Foundation, has confirmed his commitment to disseminate the decalogue of good practices for beating marine pollution.
The second leg of the Sailing Champions League will see the teams representing the best European yacht clubs compete in short regattas, followed by the qualification in St. Petersburg, in view of the final leg in Saint Moritz from the 15th to the 18th of August. A unique opportunity to spread, in a high-level sporting context, the need to prevent coastal and maritime pollution and to protect the balance of ecosystems in order to preserve natural and maritime habitats, adopting sustainable and responsible behaviour. Because the sea can still be saved
