One Ocean Foundation Summit Young, 2023 Edition.

More than 500 people joined us during the third edition of the One Ocean Summit Young 2023. Here’s how it went…

Milan, November 16th, 2023
Teatro Franco Parenti

As part of its educational projects, One Ocean Foundation organized the third edition of the One Ocean Summit - YOUNG, an opportunity for young people to learn, compare and orient themselves in order to raise awareness of the value of the sea to their lives.

The main topic of this year's event was "Water Pathways": through a series of testimonies we traced the adventure of water and how it is important to have an overview of this element in order to better understand the issues that undermine the health of marine ecosystems.

Key quotes from our speakers
“Underwater forests have the same functions as terrestrial forests: they produce 90 percent of the oxygen in the coastal zone. It is therefore most important to spread knowledge and promote environmental restoration interventions”
Monica Montefalcone
Researcher at University of Genoa
"My relationship with the water element started as a form protection, first swimming in it then skiing above on it. For me water is freedom, it has saved my life."
Daniele Cassioli

“Sailing all around the world in extremely polluted waters made me realize that we have to do something for our ocean”
Katja Salskov-Iversen
Olympic and professional SailGP sailor
"The water we drink today which rained down up to 500 years ago and stored in the underground aquifer: it is good, clean and abundant because it comes from a different climate"
Pietro Raitano
Head of “Centrale dell’Acqua” of Milan
Challenge 2023

During the event One Ocean Foundation and Intesa Sanpaolo presented the Wave Angels program, a challenge aimed at high school students from all over Italy, an educational module dedicated to the Blue Economy. Premio Donnambiente

On the occasion of the second edition of the One Ocean Summit Young, the Foundation hosted the seventh edition of the "DonnAmbiente" Award, an award conceived by 5 Terre Academy and dedicated to the enhancement of women who make science and environmental popularization their work.

This year's awardee was Federica Gasbarro, biologist, activist, "green influencer" who received the prestigious award precisely for her ability to dialogue with the younger generation by always characterizing her speeches with precise and rigorous scientific information.

The young winner was joined on stage by Martina Rogato, Laura Basconi and Giorgia Bollati that took part on. Each of the speakers gave testimony of how young women can be actively involved in the dissemination of knowledge on environmental sustainability and answered to the questions made by the students in the public.
