The paper was published in the journal Water, as part of the special issue on Coastal Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration. The research investigates the relationship between leaf area and leaf weight in Posidonia oceanica.
The study aims to develop a non-destructive methodology to estimate leaf biomass based on morphometric parameters, eliminating the need for physical sampling, which can cause damage to the plant. Sampling data was collected from over 16 sites across the Ligurian Sea and used to model this relationship, resulting in a predictive equation that allows biomass estimation in transplanted meadows without any harm to the plant.
The paper is part of the PhD research of Francesco Pelizza from the University of Genoa, a researcher supported by One Ocean Foundation.
