The fifth edition of One Ocean Week, an initiative promoted by One Ocean Foundation, came to a close with great enthusiasm. From May 22 to 24, the event transformed MuBA – Museo dei Bambini Milano into an open space for dialogue, awareness, and culture dedicated to the ocean and sustainability.

Over the course of three intense days, talks, screenings, workshops, educational activities, and in-depth discussions brought together researchers, artists, science communicators, institutions, creators, athletes, and citizens, with the shared goal of strengthening the dialogue between science, art, and civil society around the protection of marine ecosystems.

The program opened with a special evening of screenings featuring Paul Rose, explorer of National Geographic, followed by panels and discussions focused on the Foundation’s environmental projects, marine biodiversity protection, and the major challenges affecting the Mediterranean Sea throughout the following days.

Speakers participating throughout the event included Andrea Morello from Sea Shepherd Italia, Sandro Carniel from CNR-ISP Venice, Professor Marco Parolini from the University of Milan, marine biologist Valentina Lovat, singer-songwriter Giovanni Caccamo, street artist Greg Goya andcreators Lollomarittimo and Eddyverso, alongside numerous researchers, communicators, and ambassadors committed to environmental issues.

Special attention was also given to the language of art as a tool for raising awareness. In this context, “As Above, So Below”, the Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition – Biennale di Venezia, was presented during One Ocean Week through a dedicated talk with Antoine Bertin and Farah Piriye Coene. Promoted by One Ocean Foundation and ZEITGEIST19, the project offers an interdisciplinary reflection on the relationship between the ocean, technology, ecology, and human perception through immersive installations, sound, and scientific research.

The 2026 edition also engaged families and children through workshops organized in collaboration with MuBA - Museo dei Bambini Milano and featured the participation of The Garden Milano, which hosted morning yoga sessions in the beautiful setting of the Rotonda della Besana gardens.

The public participation and the contribution of partners, speakers, and communities confirm the growing attention toward ocean protection and the urgent need to build new connections between research, culture, and concrete action.
