The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever. Jacques Yves Cousteau

Art - in all its forms - becomes a key ally, combining beauty and inspiration with science and concrete action.

Art has the power to turn into a catalyst for change, promoting greater awareness and active engagement in the protection of marine ecosystems. This approach allows One Ocean Foundation not only to celebrate the beauty of the ocean, but also invites people to protect it for future generations.

Arte in mare

In 2023, the Foundation launched a collaboration with the Brera Academy, creating the “Arte in mare” laboratory, a program designed for students and dedicated to the protection of the ocean. The project aimed to raise awareness and engage young artists in a creative process of transformation, fostering the encounter between science and art within an educational and innovative dialogue.

The goal was to fully enhance the connection between marine conservation and the diverse expressive forms of the Academy’s young talents, encouraging them to break traditional patterns and to envision future scenarios, trends, and behaviors. The works produced were presented at key events, including One Ocean Week and the One Ocean Summit Young.

Neptune’s Abyss

On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2024, One Ocean Foundation presents an immersive installation to reflect on the importance of the sea, its resources, and all its potential. Through the photographic and sound work of multidisciplinary artist Yu Lin Humm, this exhibition sheds light on the rising temperature of the ocean.

With sustainability at its core, the installation showcases a meticulous selection of materials, each chosen for its environmentally friendly attributes and deep respect for the natural world. The material research has been conducted putting the ocean at the forefront.

Ocean Cinema

The third and fourth editions of One Ocean Week featured a rich program of film screenings dedicated to the sea: documentaries, premieres, historical films, and short films successfully filled the evenings of the event.

These screenings were made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Ocean Film Festival, the Cineteca di Milano, and the Riviera International Film Festival.

Nell'oceano di Tethys

From June to September 2024, the Foundation supported the exhibition “Nell'oceano di Tethys” by Louise Manzon, curated by Marina Mojana, hosted at the Civic Aquarium of Milan.

Louise Manzon is part of a project aimed at raising awareness and inspiring change, placing each of us at the heart of the fight to safeguard the oceans and inviting us to reflect on the beauty and importance of the primordial seas, encouraging us to protect them.

Oceanic Humanity

"Oceanic Humanity" is a site-specific light installation by Avvassena, created especially for One Ocean Week 2025. The work is composed of Quadruslight luminous cubes, each side of which displays polychrome artworks that merge two seemingly distant worlds: X-rays of human bodies and microscope images of the countless varieties of plankton inhabiting the ocean.

The installation was created by multidisciplinary artist Avvassena, whose solid international experience informs a practice that harmoniously blends painting, sculpture, engraving, and installation.
